Chibi Month: Chibis for Fun

This week’s Chibi is by our new contributor, Jason Dube of Scattered Comics. Jason shows us that starting off with a fun idea inspires us to draw. Want to try one of your own? Check out our Chibi worksheets in the Resource Library.

Welcome, Jason!

Hello Manga Artists! I thought with all the popularity of vampires going around, it would be fun to draw a Chibi vampire. This one is from my “Panda Days” comicbook series. Letʼs get started!!

STEP 1: The first thing I always start out with is a great big
oval for his head. I add in the guidelines, and then do a simple
round body. (Donʼt forget a line for the small neck.)

STEP 2: At this point I will add very simple shapes to place in
the legs, feet, hands arms, ect. I use the guidelines on the head
to place my facial features. Once I have all the basic body parts
I can go back through and decide what kind of details to add.

STEP 3: Here you can see how I go from basic shapes to
details. Of course, this being your drawing, you can dress him
anyway you want. I went ahead and gave him his basic outfit. I
added a cape on him last. Its easier to add capes after the rest
of the drawing is finished, because capes can get confusing.

STEP 4: Once you have the drawing perfect just the way you
want, go through and ink him. I use a thicker Sakura pigma marker
(0.6mm) on the big parts of the body and a smaller (0.4mm) marker
on the facial features and smaller details.

Thanks for reading! Hope to see you guys again soon.
