Exercise 02: Your lines are the story

As an artist, what you draw will tell your story. And that’s what readers want — To see and understand what you’re trying to say! Try to spend 15-30 minutes on this lesson. It’s best to print it out as one lesson!

Got something to draw with?

When you draw, lines are your friend! You should learn about the little secrets that lines can hold. Try and draw lines that are thin, thick, or have line-width variation (meaning they go from thin to thick and back again).

Try to copy the ones you like! Or, make up your own!

To get a thicker line, you can draw over it a second time. Try going over it exactly to make it darker, or going slightly to one side of it to make it thicker.

Now let’s do something a little more fun. Fill in the comic here with the eyes and mouths that you like! And, you can make up your own story by filling in the speech bubbles!

Hope you had fun! See you next time!
